Blain, 57, grew up in Young, NSW, attended The Scots College in Sydney and trained as an auctioneer before joining real estate firm LJ Hooker. Moved to Colliers Jardine, with stints in Singapore and Australia. Based in Hong Kong since appointment as CBRE’s chairman and chief executive in February 2002. Holds diploma in land economy from Real Estate Institute of NSW. Fellow of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in Britain and the Australian Property Institute. Acts as an auctioneer for Operation Smile Vietnam fundraisers. Married to second wife, Julianne, with five adult children between them. Divides time between Hong Kong, Sydney and a farm at Gloucester, NSW.
