The Australian - Wish Magazine - - TIMEPIECES -

First released in 1969, the very square, very sporty Monaco is one of TAG Heuer’s most famous and recognisable designs. In no small part that fame is the result of the watch being worn on Steve McQueen’s wrist in the 1971 racing epic Le Mans. McQueen’s on-screen vehicle of choice is a Porsche 917 emblazoned with Gulf Oil’s distinctive blue and orange livery. It’s this colour scheme that makes a triumphant return, in racing stripe form, on the dial of the 2018 Monaco Gulf Special Edition. It may not be the most subtle dial out there, but it is – like anything touched by the aura of McQueen – undeniably cool. RRP $7650
