Goodbye, Golden Girl
We bid farewell to four-time Olympic athletics gold medallist, Betty Cuthbert. The only Olympian to win gold in all sprint events, she was dubbed Australia’s “golden girl”. Betty was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1969 and dedicated her later years to raising awareness of the condition that finally took her life in August, at age 79. She was a courageous, generous, gracious Australian and, as athletic star Cathy Freeman said, her story will inspire future generations.
