Skin “self­ies” could be the key to re­duc­ing our na­tion’s deadly rate of me­lanoma, which kills 1770 Aus­tralians each year. Mobile tele­d­er­moscopy al­lows pa­tients to take images of skin le­sions and send them to a der­ma­tol­o­gist for a re­mote di­ag­no­sis. Eighty-seven per cent of peo­ple who have a high risk of me­lanoma found snap­ping a selfie im­proved their self-ex­am­i­na­tion per­for­mance.
