Mi­cro­bi­ol­o­gist Dr Matthew Sul­li­van, from Grif­fith Univer­sity’s School of Med­i­cal Sci­ence, has pro­vided fresh hope for suf­fers of uri­nary tract in­fec­tions (UTI) after he un­cov­ered a ge­netic reg­u­la­tor that con­trols the sever­ity of UTI strep­to­coc­cal dis­ease. With up to 40 per cent of women ex­pe­ri­enc­ing at least one UTI in their life­time, the dis­cov­ery is a ma­jor step for­ward.
