To remove dead skin, soothe cracked heels and get your feet soft and pretty for summer sandals, soak them for 15 minutes in a solution of ½ cup each Listerine and white vinegar and 1 cup warm water. Rub with pumice or a rough cloth, rinse and dry. R. Cole, via email. Q: Is it possible to make homemade reed diffuser oil and can I re-use the reeds from an empty diffuser?

L. Sheppard, Buderim, Qld.

A: Combine ¼ cup sweet almond oil, 15–25 drops of your favourite essential oil/s and 2 tablespoons vodka (optional) in a narrownecked jar. You will need new rattan diffuser reeds (buy them cheaply on the net) as the old ones will be clogged and will not draw up the oil.
