Fashion

The Australian Women's Weekly - - 85 years -

The straight knee-length beaded apper dresses of the hedonistic 1920s gave way for a more serious look in the 1930s as the Depression took hold. More women were working and the era saw smart, tted suits with trousers – and the rise of ready-to-wear clothes in department stores. The fashions were still dictated by European styles and some, like ice-skating out ts complete with a hand muff, seemed a little out of place in Australia.
