Ladies were not com­plete with­out a hat when they left home – de­spite the war there was still room for some “fri­vol­i­ties”, such as the Ori­en­tal Fez (above) which “soars to un­ex­pected heights for the cock­tail hour”. Vi­brant art deco pat­terns and bright colours also her­alded the start of a mod­ern, ca­sual look.
