Grand artist’s final bow
ONE OF THE MOST ambitious artists of the 20th century, Christo Javacheff, has died. A refugee who was renowned for monumental art installations, Christo is famous for wrapping monuments and the natural world in fabric. He used 40,000 metres of golden fabric to swaddle the Pont Neuf in Paris, and draped the German house of parliament in silver material and rope. In 1969 he wrapped more than 2km of Australian coastline. He was 84.
