Car fire sparks fears

FIREFIGHTERS worked to extinguish a blaze coming from a car engine on Christmas night amid fears of a carport and nearby unit catching fire. The unit, which is on McLeod St in Cairns North, suffered minor smoke damage but was cleared after firefighters ventilated the property. Two crews and a rescue truck were called to the scene but the blaze was under control within minutes.
