Officers march in honour of fallen colleagues

-

THEY marched to remember those who didn’t make it home.

For Acting Chief Superintendent Rolf Straatemeier, who is usually based on the Tablelands, the annual Police Remembrance Day means even more. It has been just over three years since Mareeba officer Casey Blain died in a car crash near Georgetown and Acting Chief Supt Straatemeier said yesterday’s event was a chance to think of him.

“We all remember Casey, what a lovely person he was,” he said.

“He was very community minded, as are many of our officers.”

A Cairns-based police dog has been named in Casey’s honour and joined the march through the CBD yesterday.

Acting Chief Supt Straatemeier said it was also a chance for the community to show their support for the police.

“We know that 99 per cent of people support us each and every day,” he said.
