Higher court to take over

MATTERS against three alleged Cairns bikies will likely be heard in the Supreme Court.

Arthur Chamberlain Juckes, Mark Brenton Blomeley and Joshua Graeme Hutchins had been committed to stand trial in the Cairns District Court on one count of assault occasioning bodily harm with a circumstance of aggravation under the VLAD Act 2013.

Under state legislation, the maximum penalty for Mr Juckes and Mr Blomeley is 25 years, while for Mr Hutchins it’s 35 years. This means the District Court does not have the jurisdiction to hear matters.
