Fun in festival lead-up

-

CAIRNS’ famous flora and fauna will come alive as a 2.4m high cut-out of the new Cairns Children’s Festival mascots pops up around the city.

The four new mascots: ‘Penda’, the leafy golden penda tree (Cairns’ official floral emblem), ‘Zippy’ the ideas robot, ‘Diamond’ the crafty python and ‘Scratch’ the bush turkey are featured on a display with a head hole at children’s head height.

Cultural Services Chair Councillor Linda Cooper (left) said that the new mascot sign will create a fun way for families to interact with the annual festival in the lead-up to the event, which will be held on Sunday, May 21.

“The Children’s Festival has been growing steadily since it started four years ago, with almost 4000 people attending last year’s event,” she said.
