Cairns Meals on Wheels, St John’s Community Care and the Cairns Post have joined forces to provide newspapers to Meals On Wheels clients.

Cairns Meals On Wheels president Joan Cadman said it was a most generous gesture.

Clients will began receiving a free paper from today.

“I think it’s going to be one of absolute delight and surprise. It’s so rare for anyone to get something for nothing,” Ms Cadman said.

She described it as a wonderful addition to the service, which began in 1968 and delivers to more than 300 clients from Gordonvale to Freshwater.

Cairns Meals On Wheels uses 30 volunteers a day.

“We have more than 100 volunteers on our books and we are most dependant on our wonderful volunteer workforce,” Ms Cadman said.
