Al­leged rape

A MAN has been charged with se­ri­ous sex­ual of­fend­ing fol­low­ing an al­leged rape at Ather­ton Fri­day night. An Ather­ton po­lice spokesman said it was al­leged the in­ci­dent oc­curred about 3am Sat­ur­day at ho­tel ac­com­mo­da­tion on Main St. A 49-year-old man has been ar­rested and charged with rape, de­pri­va­tion of lib­erty and stran­gu­la­tion. It is un­der­stood that he and the 33-year-old woman are known to each other and that the woman alerted po­lice to the al­leged in­ci­dent. The man is due to ap­pear in Ma­reeba Mag­is­trates Court to­day.

Biose­cu­rity work­shop

A BIOSE­CU­RITY work­shop for dairy farm­ers will be held at Ma­landa in Septem­ber. The Queens­land Dairy­farm­ers Or­gan­i­sa­tion is yet to fi­nalise a lo­ca­tion and date, but is en­cour­ag­ing mem­bers to at­tend to check their biose­cu­rity plan for their farm. Farm­ers can also sign up for a free Bovine Johne’s dis­ease slurry test.
