A MAN has been charged with serious sexual offending following an alleged rape at Atherton Friday night. An Atherton police spokesman said it was alleged the incident occurred about 3am Saturday at hotel accommodation on Main St. A 49-year-old man has been arrested and charged with rape, deprivation of liberty and strangulation. It is understood that he and the 33-year-old woman are known to each other and that the woman alerted police to the alleged incident. The man is due to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court today.
A BIOSECURITY workshop for dairy farmers will be held at Malanda in September. The Queensland Dairyfarmers Organisation is yet to finalise a location and date, but is encouraging members to attend to check their biosecurity plan for their farm. Farmers can also sign up for a free Bovine Johne’s disease slurry test.
