Ro­tary chief in FNQ visit

RO­TARY In­ter­na­tional pres­i­dent Ian Rise­ley has vis­ited Rocky Creek’s World War II igloo restora­tion project, Ma­reeba wet­lands and taken a trip on Skyrail dur­ing a five-day visit to the Far North.

Mr Rise­ley was the first serv­ing Ro­tary In­ter­na­tional pres­i­dent to visit the re­gion in 30 years. Rep­re­sent­ing Ma­reeba Shire Coun­cil, Coun­cil­lor Kevin Davies thanked Mr Rise­ley for his visit to the Table­lands and in­ter­est in lo­cal Ro­tary projects.

“It is a great priv­i­lege to have you here and we are hon­oured,” he said.

Lo­cal Ro­tar­ian Yumi Smith read a let­ter of sup­port by Ro­tary Dis­trict 2620 gov­er­nor To­moyoshi Mat­sumura be­fore a pa­per­bark tree was planted by Rise­ley to com­mem­o­rate his visit to the wet­lands.

Ma­reeba Ro­tary Club pres­i­dent Matt Ja­cob said the wet­lands were a spe­cial part of the town, with many in­ter­est­ing things for vis­i­tors to see and do.
