AFTER dropping their first game so far this season, Cairns Saints were happy to get back on the winners’ list any way they could.

The previously undefeated Saints fell to Sharks last start but bounced back strongly in the Cairns Netball Association, downing South Cairns Cutters 37-25 on Friday night.

Saints’ Jeda Nash, Rachel Fa’anana, Eleanor Horsburgh and Wendy Stafford starred in the win that had first-year coach Jaimi Byrne smiling.

“We were down a couple of players but a few … reserves came in and did a good job,” Byrne said. “We worked on our different combinations but as a team, we are happy to be back on the winners list.”

Cairns Saints and Sharks are locked into the top two with finals on the horizon, with Leprechauns, CTB Bulldogs and South Cairns Cutters fighting it out for the last two spots in the post season.

Bulldogs dropped a chance to push for a finals berth as they went down to Sharks 50-29 on Friday night.

Bulldogs coach Kelly Hynes said this Friday’s game against South Cairns will be crucial.

“Our consistency is something that we will need to look at,” Hynes said.
