Skipper enters regatta on wave of confidence
CAIRNS sailor Warren Innes is putting the finishing touches to his prized catamaran before four days of fierce racing in the Sail Cairns Regatta.
Having competed in the event since its inception four years ago, Mr Innes said he remained undefeated in North Queensland.
The sailing and racing series in and around the Cairns Inlet and nearby islands starts tonight with a briefing before racing at 10am tomorrow.
“We’ve got some strong winds forecast for the weekend so it’s going to be exciting,” Mr Innes said.
“There’s a lot of skill involved in knowing the right sails to use with the wind conditions and local knowledge comes into play a lot.”
Sail Cairns chairman Mark Leitner said about 12 vessels had already nominated from Cairns, Port Douglas, Coral Sea Valley, Mackay, Townsville and South Brisbane.
GROWING OPTIMISM: Barefoot sailor and captain Warren Innes will be competing in this weekend's Sail Cairns Regatta in a fleet of more than 10 yachts and catamarans.
