PNG culture celebrated
PAPUA New Guinea heritage, culture and cuisine will be celebrated in Cairns tomorrow night at a fundraising dinner marking the country’s Independence Day.
Cairns restaurant Mama Coco will host the event at the German Club in Winkworth St from 5.30pm, which will double as a fundraiser for the Hanuabada Fire Appeal supporting a PNG community that was devastated by fire this year. “This Saturday’s event will be loads of fun and a wonderful, colourful and cultural blend of delicious PNG specialty food, live band entertainment, raffle and auction,” said owner Davy O’Rourke (above). Tickets are available by pre-purchase only and are limited. They can be purchased from either Mama Coco on Aumuller St or Billy’s Coffee on Sheridan St at $30 per adult, $10 for kids (5-16).
