PNG cul­ture cel­e­brated

PA­PUA New Guinea her­itage, cul­ture and cui­sine will be cel­e­brated in Cairns to­mor­row night at a fundrais­ing din­ner mark­ing the coun­try’s In­de­pen­dence Day.

Cairns restau­rant Mama Coco will host the event at the Ger­man Club in Winkworth St from 5.30pm, which will dou­ble as a fundraiser for the Hanu­abada Fire Ap­peal sup­port­ing a PNG com­mu­nity that was dev­as­tated by fire this year. “This Satur­day’s event will be loads of fun and a won­der­ful, colour­ful and cul­tural blend of de­li­cious PNG spe­cialty food, live band entertainment, raf­fle and auc­tion,” said owner Davy O’Rourke (above). Tick­ets are avail­able by pre-pur­chase only and are lim­ited. They can be pur­chased from ei­ther Mama Coco on Au­muller St or Billy’s Cof­fee on Sheri­dan St at $30 per adult, $10 for kids (5-16).
