Timber heritage focus
RAVENSHOE’S biggest annual community event is back next month.
Torimba Festival is the state’s largest woodwork festival and channels the town’s timber heritage.
The name is coined from tourism and timber.
Last year the timber exhibition attracted 800 entries, including wood sculptures, carvings, cabinetmaking, furniture and paintings. The Torimba Festival started in October 1972 and also features a grand parade down Grigg St.
The festivities are held for two weeks in October. It also features a Queen Entrant Street Stall, mardi gras and parade, Festival of the Forest and Miss and Master Torimba Fun Day.
The event runs from October 7 to October 22.
