Council trials discount

The Cairns Post - - LIFESTYLE -

AN EARLY bird discount has been launched for visitors to travel on the Daintree Ferry (right) over the school holidays.

Record numbers have travelled on the ferry in the past 18 months and prolonged waiting times for locals in peak periods.

Douglas Shire Council will trial the discount for any car or ute travelling before 9am between September 15 and October 3.

Mayor Julia Leu said the trial hoped to have a positive impact on the Daintree economy and give visitors more time.

“This initiative also has the added benefit of encouraging selfdrive visitors to spend longer north of the Daintree River so they have more time to experience the beauty of the region and the diversity of tours and activities available,” she said.
