On state election

-

The taxi industry has contributed to government revenue for decades and will continue to do so. Yet direct government action will close this revenue stream, condemn hardworking taxi owners to bankruptcy, all the while supporting an overseas company that is not asked to contribute to our local economy. Revenue, fairness and an equal playing field are the things this government and opposition have no idea how to achieve. David the cabbie, Woree Pre-poll opening has opened. Time to take a real stand against the major parties in Cairns. Rob Pyne is getting my No. 1. Tim, Cairns At no other time during a term of government is money more readily available than when a date has been set for an election to form a new government. We should present a petition to the government of the day to reduce the parliaments term to six months. The mind boggles at the thought of the extra money that would be available. Woody, Atherton If you want properly funded health, education and police force vote Labor. The LNP sells public assets and cuts funding for hospitals, schools, correctional centres and infrastructure like roads. Local, Cairns Werner (letters 13/11). Yes, independents can be good, but Rob Pyne sits to the left of the ALP/Greens. His votes in parliament damage our economy. Mic, Cairns After the results of the Cairns Post Galaxy poll, I wonder if both parties have finally taken notice of how out of touch they are with many Far North Queenslanders? Photo shoots of LNP partying over Queensland and ALP reviving tired old promises. A casino, really, after last time? And Bruce Highway promises again. No wonder people feel anger at their lack of understanding of the real issues most people care about. As always they will forget us again once elected. Merlin, Bentley Park My vote goes to the first aspiring politician who doubles or triples the fine for mobile phone use while driving. Get real you lot, it’s in plague proportions and has to be culled. Greg Manunda On purpose go slow on Bill Fulton Bridge to finish just before election, I bet. Jon, Cairns
