Pa­cific Hino wins award

MY HUS­BAND De­nis Ke­effe and I launched Mainie in Cairns in Au­gust 2015.

At the time, we were con­fi­dent that our unique meld­ing of au­then­tic Abo­rig­i­nal art and lux­u­ri­ous silk would be suc­cess­ful, but we were also pre­pared for it to take some time for us to carve out a foothold in the mar­ket­place.

It had al­ready taken us nearly five years to de­velop our busi­ness con­cept to launch stage and while we felt ready to be­gin trad­ing, we still started cau­tiously with a de­but fash­ion col­lec­tion fea­tur­ing just 12 au­then­tic Abo­rig­i­nal de­signs.

It was a great re­lief that de­spite our ini­tial ret­i­cence, we were able to quickly se­cure a prom­i­nent po­si­tion in the high-end travel re­tail sec­tor.

Some of our first de­signs sold out within weeks and we were soon plac­ing or­ders for more stock to meet de­mand from our cus­tomers.

Over the next two years, we further ex­panded our col­lec­tion to in­clude both men’s and women’s fash­ion and gift prod­ucts fea­tur­ing more than 30 dif­fer­ent Abo­rig­i­nal art­work de­signs by 24 artists from re­mote com­mu­ni­ties in Queens-
