Cops look to return stolen goods to owners

- JACK LAWRIE

CAIRNS police are trying to track down the owners of dozens of allegedly stolen items, including full-size camper trailers, power tools and even a horse float.

Detectives from Innisfail CIB last week searched a resi- dence in Clyde Rd at Babinda and found a significant haul of allegedly stolen property. A 25year old Babinda man was charged with 16 offences.

Cairns Detective acting Inspector Rob Campbell said they were trying to determine how the items were stolen.

“This has occurred over a number of weeks and we’re unsure exactly how long this has been going for because we can’t identify some of the property,” he said.

“It’s quite apparent that they were reidentifying some of the trailers and offloading them to other people.

“A number of items have been returned to their owners, however there are a number of items that we can’t identify and are seeking assistance.

“Anyone who has been a victim of property crime recently in relation to workshop equipment, power tools, trailers and the like should contact the Cairns Police Station.”

The man is in custody and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 30.

If you have information, contact Policelink on 131 444 or call the Cairns Police Station on 4030 7000.

Police will be allowing people to view property at the station today from 9am-12pm.
