CHALLENGE FOR PLAYERS OLD AND NEW

-

A REVOLVING cast of players presents new challenges for strength and conditioning coaches but for Northern Pride’s Scott Callaghan it’s one of the perks of the job. Callaghan nominated dummy half Connor Jones, Bradley Stephen and Shawn Bowen as three players he is eager to push this pre-season. But the chance to turn rookie Matt Laumea into an Intrust Super Cup beast has him particularly excited. “Pull the string and let him go,” Callaghan said of the Innisfail recruit. “His effort is fantastic and if you wind him up, he’ll go crazy. “We’ll miss ‘Kaps’ (retired enforcer Troy Kapea) this season. He struck fear into other teams. Matty Laumea could possibly be that bloke because he’s got that edge. “We didn’t see a lot of Bradley Stephen last year. He’s untapped as is Shawn Bowen who is a terrific athlete. “There are a couple of young kids coming through. I’ll be interested to see how they go.”
