Barty Snr set to visit Cairns club

THE father of the world’s number one tennis player Ash Barty will visit Cairns this weekend to give a chat about raising a champion.

Robert Barty will appear at Gordonvale Tennis Club on Sunday talking about how his family and her tennis coach helped her become the champion she is today.

Edmonton and Gordonvale Tennis Club president Guy Thomas said the kids in the club had knuckled down on their training since Ash’s visit to the Edmonton club late last year.

“He (Robert) was up here last year for a talk at Home Hill Tennis Association, which I happened to be at,” Mr Thomas said.

“His talk on how Ash got there and the role of the family was brilliant, so I talked to him about coming up to Cairns.”

Mr Thomas said over a hundred people had booked to attend the free talk on Sunday, but there were a few spots still available. It starts at 1.30pm this Sunday at Djarragun College, adjacent to the Gordonvale Tennis Club at the Rotunda in Norman Park.
