State election

-

WHEN Federal Labor “gave” us the remarkable technology called NBN, it was said to be nation building.

One thought that the various parliaments could operate online if necessary in the event of a natural disaster or a pandemic.

So here we are in the pandemic and we are just finding out now that the State Labor Government does not have provisions in place for all the members to attend parliament via their taxpayer-funded laptops.

We are also now seeing powers given to the state health officer, not the federal health officer, to suspend the next state elections indefinitely.

This highlights the folly of having a fixed term parliament and really we need to have a referendum as to whether this is right.

Coupled with that the state AttorneyGeneral, not the federal Attorney-General, is seeking to suspend the Queensland parliament until September and after that then perhaps longer.

Effectively we have a dictator in the Premier’s chair at present.

Give us online voting or is the Queensland State Labor Government that broke or should I say broken?

This is an extraordinary attempt to grab power for a longer term to bolster some sitting members terms for superannuation purposes. JOHN FRIEND, Toowoomba
