Major changes to council plan
WESTERN DOWNS: Major changes to the Western Downs Regional Council’s Planning Scheme and Local Government Infrastructure Plan have come into effect, streamlining the processes and creating greater business confidence.
The changes replace six of the region’s schemes, gives a 10-day turnaround for certain applications and remove the need for development applications for office or retail outlets.
The council has committed to undertake six-monthly reviews, and where necessary amendments, to ensure the planning scheme can respond to the changing needs of the region.
Western Downs Mayor Paul McVeigh said scheme was developed to allow the region to grow and meet changing circumstances.
“We now have one of the most modern planning schemes in the state,” he said.
“When you consider how much our region has grown over the past five years, it is critical that we have a planning scheme which is agile and responsive so it can adapt to our growing economy and capture all of the future opportunities which are certain to come.”
