A YOUNG woman has unwrapped the birthday gift of a lifetime, winning $10,000 from a $1 scratchie.

The Kingaroy woman was given a handful of tickets from her friend for her birthday earlier this year, but didn’t get around to scratching them until recently.

“I didn’t scratch it immediately and I had completely forgot that I had it until I went through my presents again and saw it,” the woman said.

“I started scratching it and saw one $10,000, and then three $10,000s.

“I was like - wait, what’s happening? I called my friend over and asked them to check it.”

The winning tickets were bought from Robinson’s News and Gifts in Kingaroy whose owner said he was thrilled to have sold it.

“We’ve sold a few top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its tickets during the past 43 years we’ve been here,” owner John Robinson said.

“You never grow tired of someone winning a life-changing amount of money and $10,000 is a great leg-up for someone.”

The winner said she wasn’t yet sure what she would use the money for.

“For the moment I’m just going to save it,” she said.

“It’s just come at the greatest time ever.

“It’s just amazing to think I’ve won one of the top prizes.”
