Unit limit measure passed

THE Toowoomba Regional Council will now be able to limit the number of “poor quality” units on a single street, after it passed a new measure.

The council officially adopted the new “temporary local planning instrument” (TLPI) in the Planning and Development Committee meeting yesterday, which was proposed back in May as a short-term weapon while changes to the current planning scheme were made.

In his report, principal planner Heath Martin said dual occupancy developments had increased every year since 2013.

Deputy Mayor Carol Taylor supported the measure, saying communities had been hurt from unit overloading. It will be effective next month.
