FLASH­BACK: In spite of wet weather New­town Park ad­ja­cent to Pot­tinger St be­came a crowded car-park and Light Horse rid­ers and mounts pre­pared be­hind Tay­lor St tennis court on Oc­to­ber 21. The oc­ca­sion, to mark ded­i­ca­tion of the Rod Hult­gren Gar­den Bed as the lat­est ad­di­tion to Toowoomba’s International Rose Gar­den. Rod is well know for his gar­den­ing in­ter­ests as a Car­ni­val of Flow­ers win­ner and later judge, de­vel­op­ment of Toowoomba’s International Rose Gar­dens, beau­ti­fi­ca­tion of Rockville State School (RSS) gar­dens and Gar­den­ing Ses­sions on ABC Ra­dio. Rod will also be re­mem­bered by gen­er­a­tions of adults that passed, as stu­dents, through RSS, where he was Head­mas­ter. At­tached is the RSS staff photo of 1987 (in­clud­ing Rod), Rod was learned, well trav­elled and true gen­tle­man.
