China slams ‘arrogant’ Australia
CHINA’S official newswire has lashed out at Australia after International Development Minister Concetta Fierravanti-Wells criticised Chinese projects in the Pacific region. Xinhua said in an opinion piece online: “If Australia really cares about its Pacific neighbours, it should first learn from China to treat those much smaller neighbours as equals and refrain from behaving like an arrogant overlord.” Ms Fierravanti-Wells (pictured) had questioned the ability of Pacific Island nations to repay loans from China and said China’s development assistance was resulting in “white elephants”.
