Young artist wins special competition
A budding Cobram artist has had one of her works selected as the face of this year’s show booklet, to be distributed to hundreds of people around town.
Nikita McNamara is just 11, but her colourful drawing was selected in the competition to find an image for this year’s 118th Cobram Show guide.
It shows a yellow and red-striped big top tent, with an animal nursery, carnival rides, a car show and an art gallery, all below colourful words saying ‘it’s awesome!’.
‘‘I was visiting my Mum who works at Cobram Secondary College and I saw the poster for the competition, so I decided to enter it,’’ she said.
Nikita, a St Joseph’s Primary School student, said she tried to draw every day. ‘‘My Mum’s an artist,’’ she said. ‘‘I draw anything I can try to draw — some attempts fail, but it’s all for fun anyway.’’
Nikita said it was kind of hard but kind of easy to put together her picture, although she’s not sure how she came up with the idea.
She said it was a surprise when she found out she’d won, but she was really happy.
‘‘I was really excited when I found out, because I thought there would have been so many people enter with better drawings,’’ she said. ‘‘I didn’t know I was going to win.’’ As a prize, she won free entry to the show, and said she planned to take her family with her.
She said she enjoyed doing any kind of art.
‘‘I love most things, and doing crafting — making a mess in the house,’’ she said.
She said she generally entered a number of her artworks in the show each year.
