Moira Film Group

This month’s film to be shown by the Moira Film Group is the remake of the comedy Dad’s Army starring Michael Gambon, Bill Nighy, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Tom Courtenay. It will be shown today, (Wednesday) at the Yarroweyah Town Hall at 1.30 pm. Afternoon tea is available after the film. Visitors are welcome.

Cards and games day

The Cobram District Health Ladies Auxiliary will hold its famous cards and games day on Thursday, September 22 at Barooga Bowls Club starting at 11 am. Lunch will be provided along with a ticket for the lucky door prize, all for $20. A trading table with baked goods, preserves, bric-a-brac and a raffle are all on offer. Library holiday activities

There is heaps for children to do at the Cobram Library over the school holidays. On September 22 from 11 am to noon there will be Jack and the Parachute holiday fun. Come along to build a parachute to help Jack get down from the beanstalk. Children can also celebrate Roald Dahl’s centenary by doing a quiz about his books with lollipops for prizes. Or have fun with Batman-related colouring-in and puzzles for Batman Day. Monster bookmarks can be made all school holidays.

Cobram Bushwalkin­g Club

The walk for this month will be on Sunday, September 25, leaving from Cobram Post Office at 8 am. The walk will visit the Murchison area and will include a visit to Days Historic Flour Mill. Anyone wishing to join in can phone Di and Jeff on 0499 536 783.

Quilt-making day

On Monday, September 26, Tocumwal sewing groups, the Girls’ Shed and Sew’n’Sews will host a quilt-making day for the Very Snuggly Quilt program, which distribute­s quilts to patients at the Royal Children’s Hospital (about 1800 over the past 12 months). It will be held at the Tocumwal Bowls Club from 9.30 am to 4 pm. Please bring your machine, sewing requisites and your own lunch and mug. Morning and afternoon tea provided. Cobram Barooga Probus Club

The club will hold its next meeting on Monday, October 3 at the Senior Citizens Hall, Cobram between 10 am and noon. Probus is a non-profit club open to all semi or retired, married or single people. The annual membership fee is $35; $1 each meeting will give you unlimited tea or coffee, cakes or biscuits. Guest speakers are at most meetings. Learn and share with U3A

Cobram and District U3A could help you enjoy learning and sharing, so if you appreciate knowledge and want to share some of your lifetime experience­s, through classes and social contacts, then this could be time well spent. The U3A October coffee morning on Tuesday, October 4 will be a morning of sharing new ideas to help the U3A grow. The guest speaker is Anne Thompson, convenor of the U3A Network Education Committee. Soroptimis­t high tea

Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of Cobram Barooga will host a High Tea on Saturday, October 8. There will be a display and discussion of Batavian Pearls, free sparkling wine on arrival, raffles and Lady of the Day. It will be held at Barooga Sports Club Garden Room from 2.30 pm to 5 pm. Cancer support group

The Cobram and District Cancer Support Group meets on the first Friday of each month at 1.30 pm at Killara House, Bank St, Cobram. New members are welcome and people can turn up on the day or phone beforehand. The group operates with the generous support and funding from Ritchies IGA. Weight Watchers change

Cemetery walk

The Cobram Cemetery Trust is holding a cemetery walk in October and the theme is Murray Goulburn. The trust would like to include all those that were: instigator­s of the factory, milk suppliers/farmers, and employees of Murray Goulburn CoOperativ­e in Cobram. The trust would like to create a roll of honour in the Cemetery Walk Booklet for those who have been interred at Cobram Public Cemetery. Create and chat

Bowlers’ coffee club

Wanting to meet new people while learning a new sport? Come along to Barooga Sports Bowls Club’s bowlers’ coffee club on Wednesdays at 9.45 am. No previous experience needed; flat shoes are required. Toy library

Cobram & District Toy Library is open every Saturday from 10 am to 11 am during school terms in the Family Services building, 16 Hay Ave, Cobram. The toy library offers affordable access to a varied selection of safe, clean and age-appropriat­e toys, catering for children aged from birth to about six years. Want to be part of the Red Hat Society? The ‘Raving Reds’ group is looking for new members — women aged 50 and over who have a zest for life and wish to take part in a fun-loving friendly group that has no rules and no committees. The only exception is the dress code: a red hat (or something frivolous) worn with a purple outfit. The group meets regularly at various venues chosen by members.
