The scratch bunch was flying though and with a halfway time of 18.50 minutes it was its race to lose.

The return headwind saw the five minute block bunch split with M. Doyle and Gillespie trying their luck at holding the scratch bunch at bay.

The duo lasted until just before Stillards Hill with 5 km remaining. With the power of the scratch bunch proving strong over the hill, A. Doyle, H. White and Torney were able kick clear to the finish.

A three-up sprint finish into the headwind saw A. Doyle victorious by two bike lengths from H. White and Torney rounded out the top three.

The winner’s time, which was also fastest, was 42.30 minutes, with M. Doyle producing an excellent sprint to finish fourth in 43 minutes, with Walmsley rounding out the first five in 43.02.

● Next week sees round five of the McDonald’s TT Super Series over 15 km.

Heath White currently leads with two rounds remaining, but there are several riders within striking distance.

The race starts 1.30 pm.
