Author enjoys country visits
Best-selling Australian contemporary fiction author Jenn J McLeod will visit Cobram Library on Monday, July 10 to share some inspiration on writing and publishing.
What does a writer do when she runs out of friends and family to fictionalise?
She sells up, downsizes to a 25-foot caravan and goes in search of more country towns and quirky characters — and according to Jenn J McLeod, this magnificent country has plenty of both.
While writing on the road has its challenges, Ms McLeod said the best part by far was getting to stop and meet regionally-based readers and writers who often miss out on author big city tours and events.
‘‘I love dropping into local libraries along the way to say g’day,’’ she said.
She hit bestseller status when she was 53, with her debut novel House for all Seasons, with readers placing it at number five on the Nielsen’s Best Selling Debut Novel list.
Reviewers have hailed her fourth novel, The Other Side of the Season as the best yet.
Ms McLeod’s seasons collection of four novels are best described as heartwarming tales of Australian country life that weave intricate tapestries of friendship, family, love and contemporary issues.
Readers who enjoy family and friendship stories in the style of Monica McInerney, Maeve Binchy and Liz Bryski will enjoy Ms McLeod’s small town stories.
Her author talks blend amusing anecdotes and facts as she discusses both the inspiration for her stories and the process of getting a book from her head and onto the shelves, including how she turned a rock into a book.
Whether you are an avid reader or an aspiring author, you will walk away with a greater appreciation of the book’s journey.
Jenn J McLeod will speak and meet people at Cobram Library on Monday, July 10 at 2 pm. Bookings are required; phone Cobram Library on 1300 374 765 by July 7.
