Shire donation welcomed
Cobram-based Foodshare was given a welcome helping hand recently with a donation from the Moira Shire Green Team.
Moira Shire environmental services technical officer Jack Tennant made the presentation on behalf of the team, which meets regularly and aims to enhance environmental sustainability knowledge among shire personnel.
It works to foster behavioural change that leads to improved environmental outcomes and aims to assist Moira in leading by example in regards to environmental sustainability.
Delivering on key focus areas of the environmental sustainability strategy is also part of the team’s role.
The team meets once a month to plan environmental initiatives within the workplace, such as lunchtime education sessions and fresh produce swaps.
During the recent airing of the War on Waste series and Moira Winter Market, staff members raised $200 for Moira Foodshare.
MHA Care’s Moira Foodshare and Yarrawonga Opportunity shop manager Robin Harwood said the money would be used for this year’s Christmas hamper program.
‘‘As part of that program, we will purchase Christmas cakes, puddings and jellies — this donation will be a big help to us,’’ Mr Harwood said.
‘‘Every year we put together between 500 and 600 Christmas hampers which weigh just under 20 kg and they’re distributed right throughout the region, through northern Victoria and southern NSW,’’ he said.
