The first trade day of the season was held at Nathalia and the jackpot went off.

Or did it? It was awarded but then it was revealed that not all of the winning team were present, so it jackpots to this week at Barooga and is worth $215.

Winners of the day were the team of Barry Cosgrove, Joe Luci and Neil ‘Nipper’ Macklin with 4 wins and 65 points closely followed by Peter Russell, Stephen Brooks and Des Toohey also with 4 wins but with 64 points.

There are no NABA awards this year. So best first game is paid, as well as other games provided there are no other four-game winners.

The best first-game winners this week with 18 shots up were Bob Adams, Peter Velardo and John Ellis. Best second-game winners were Archie Ellis, Phil Perkins and Ron Quinn with 17 shots up. Best third-game winners with 21 shots up were Chris Philpott, Bob Bowman and R. Job. Ian Smethurst, Kerian Beare and Warren Blanche won the best last game with 16 shots.

This week the trade day is at Barooga, so names in to Ray Wright as soon as possible as positions are filling fast.

Keith’s Friday this past week saw 24 bowlers attending with winners being Graeme Hickey and Ray Koch with +19.

Runners-up were John Bruce and Joan Greelish with +13 and 14 ends from Matt Hannan and Bob Thatcher also on +13 but with 12 ends.

Best first-game winners were Geoff Brentnall and Helen Quinn with +8 and to ease the pain a little from missing out on runners-up were Matt Hannan and Bob Thatcher, who won best second game with +12.

Jackpot did not go off and will be worth $141.85 this week.

Twenty-four bowlers travelled to Corowa to play in the club’s first practice match on Sunday and were successful in retaining the shield played for another year.

Four out of the six rinks were successful which was a good result as the greens were very quick and taking plenty of grass, so well done to all who made themselves available.

Everyone enjoyed the hospitality of the Corowa players and club.

This week the practice match is against Hilltop and once again teams will be selected on Wednesday.

Hilltop will be arriving at noon for a barbecue lunch so be on time to share hospitality with the Hilltop bowlers.

Twenty-two teams played in the first Ladies Trade Day event held last Wednesday at Cobram Bowls Club.

Although the weather was a little chilly with an icy (at times) breeze blowing, the ladies thoroughly enjoyed their three games played against ladies from other clubs within the Murray Bowls Division.

There were five teams on three winning games with Jan Niven, Yvonne Clark and Jenny Sutcliffe from Numurkah Golf coming out with the win on 52 points from Cobram’s team skippered by Ieve Saunders on 51 points.

Lucky card winners were Helen Bowman (lead), Margie Cooper (third) and Brenda Smethurst (skip). Di Retallick’s card was drawn for the jackpot chance but unfortunately no win for them.

This week’s game is at Nathalia. The club thanks its sponsor Bendigo Bank, who presented the prizes to all winners. All in all a very successful day.

Saturday triples was won by Carol Doherty, Dave Hutchins and Glenys Walker with John Crump, Barry Turner and Brenda Ingram runners-up.
