Courthouse is back in action

The Cobram Courier - - NEWS -

The historic Cobram courthouse reopened its doors today and will commence court sittings from Wednesday, October 18.

The courthouse had been closed since March last year when a fire destroyed the majority of the building.

Court Services Victoria chief operating officer Brian Stevenson said he was relieved the exterior was left intact, which meant the court was able to be restored.

‘‘It’s great to see the courthouse reopened,’’ Mr Stevenson said.

‘‘We’ve been able to restore it to its initial specifications and also make minor upgrades to improve accessibility and safety,’’ he said.

‘‘There’s a little more work to be done on the exterior of the building, which is due for completion next month, but the court is officially back in operation and will no longer be sitting at the temporary site set up in the CFA building.’’

From today, the court will operate its standard hours on Wednesdays.

An official opening event will be held when works finish later next month.

The community will be invited to celebrate the court’s reopening and walk through the historic courthouse.
