Family fun day getting bigger

The Cobram Courier - - NEWS - By Kenji Sato

A Minion, Olaf from the Frozen movie and the Schmackos dog will roam the streets handing out hugs and chocolates at the Cobram IGA this Saturday.

This odd bunch will be just some of the colourful characters on display at Ritchies Supa IGA Family Fun Day, which will kick off at 9.30 am.

Manager Mandy Hawke said this year’s family fun day was shaping up to be the biggest one the store had ever seen.

‘‘This is the sixth year we’ve been doing this and it just gets bigger each year,’’ Ms Hawke said.

Money raised from the day will go towards CFA and SES, which will be selling monster raffle tickets at $2 each or three for $5.

‘‘We call it a monster raffle because we end up with a massive table full of prizes,’’ Ms Hawke said.

The prizes will be drawn at 12.30 pm and there will be a bonus $100 Ritchies gift card for a lucky member of the audience.

Over the past five years the raffle has raised about $30 000 for much-needed equipment, some of which will be on display.

Special guests this year will be Brendan Farrell, Dan and Peter Edwards from the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners with their trailer full of merchandise, with all profits to go towards fuel for the trucks on the next hay run in January.

There will be loads of entertainment for the kids, including a jumping castle, face painter and mascot characters to interact with.

IGA staff member Peter Francis will be channelling the spirit of Olaf from the Frozen movie.

‘‘The kids will love me. All I’ve got to do is bust a couple of moves and the kids will be impressed,’’ he said.

Mr Francis will be one of 10 mascots volunteering their time for free.

‘‘I thought I’d be getting at least timeand-a-half for the costume and heat, but it’s all right. I’m doing it for the store and the kids,’’ he said.

IGA staff member Daniel Jonson has watched every single Minion movie, which is why he will undoubtedly shine on the day as a Minion mascot.

‘‘I’ll try and do the Minion noises. I’ll see how I go. It’s for the kids,’’ he said
