Author to speak at library
Author Kylie Ladd will speak about her recently published novel, The Way Back ,at Cobram Library later this month.
Kylie is a novelist, psychologist and freelance writer.
She has published five novels and her writing has been well received locally as well as in New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe.
Her latest release has also been optioned for a movie by an Australian production company.
In The Way Back, Charlie Johnson is a 13-year-old in her first year of high school.
She loves her family, netball and Liam, the cute guy who sits next to her in Science — but most of all she loves horses and horse-riding.
Charlie’s parents have leased her a horse, Tic Tac, from the local pony club, but one day they go out for a ride in the national park and only Tic Tac returns.
When a life has been shattered, how do you put the pieces back together? That’s the question explored in this novel.
The Way Back takes you beyond the headlines and explores a family’s worst nightmare with compassion and insight.
Kylie used her training as a psychologist to explore what happens when someone attempts to return to their normal life following a traumatic experience.
‘‘Psychology teaches you to listen to people and think about human behaviour. It gives you a different perspective on the world,’’ she said.
‘‘Most movies about abductions end with the family being reunited, but as a psychologist I know that’s not where things end.
‘‘The book explores post-traumatic stress disorder and how people recover psychologically. I want people to think about how trauma stays with you and how it’s not easily resolved like in the movies.’’
Kylie will be speaking at the Cobram Library on Monday, October 30 at 7 pm.
Bookings are required. To book, phone Cobram Library on 1300 374 765 by October 27.
