Moira Shire’s new tourism campaign to attract young people to the region is officially live online.
Raft the Murray features a purpose-built raft travelling along the Murray River connecting with the many and diverse activities and sites.
The campaign will include online and social media promotions as well as TV commercials.
Mayor Gary Cleveland said the new campaign was an exciting and quirky new approach that was sure to inspire locals and tourists to visit the region.
‘‘From food, wine, cider and beer to an incredible indigenous cultural history — our region has it all,’’ Cr Cleveland said.
‘‘And water is such a critical component. From high energy wakeboarding and water skiing to yabby races, canoeing, camping or throwing in a line at a quiet spot — our rivers, beaches, lakes and wetlands are essential to what we have to offer.
‘‘We are very excited to be showcasing our beautiful region in this unique way.’’
Cr Cleveland said the campaign came about when Moira Shire’s Tourism Advisory Committee considered three advertising campaign pitches.
The committee recognised the need for change in council’s tourism promotion with people accessing information differently.
They were extremely impressed with the uniqueness of the Raft the Murray idea, brought to them by Alchemy Media.
‘‘The importance of tourism in Moira Shire cannot be underestimated,’’ Cr Cleveland said.
‘‘Every corner of Moira Shire has the potential to share in the social and economic benefits of tourism.
‘‘We want people to experience the unique qualities of our region and share their wonderful experiences with their friends and family.
‘‘To remain competitive with other regions we need to update our mix of advertising packages. We need to do things differently and be prepared to be different.’’
