Spinning yarns

The Cobram Courier - - NEWS -

Two of Australia’s greatest story tellers are heading our way.

Dead Men Talking, hosted by the Katamatite Lions Club, is a two-man show jampacked full of verse, song and yarns.

With Max Cullen as Henry Lawson and Warren Fahey as Banjo Paterson, these two well-known actors have been touring Australia for the past three years performing this quintessentially Australian show.

The play features just a bar table and two Australian icons, discussing their literary legacies and their infamous war of words in The Bulletin magazine.

Max Cullen has acted in such films as Sunday Too Far Away, My Brilliant Career, The Odd Angry Shot, Spider and Rose and more recently, X-Men Origins and The Great Gatsby.

He has won two AFI awards, a Logie and several other film and theatre awards.

Warren Fahey is a folklore collector, cultural historian, author, actor, broadcaster, record and concert producer, visual artist, songwriter and performer of Australian traditional and related historical music.

There will also be a special performance by Yarrawonga bush poet, Trevor Hargreaves.

Katamatite Lions Club wants to use funds raised from the show to light up the wedge-tailed eagle sculpture in the Lions Park beside Boosey Creek.

The club also intends to restore, repair and repaint the timber panels and eaves on the Katamatite Historic Museum.

‘‘Only 100 tickets are on sale. The show will sell out so people need to book early to ensure they get a seat for this great night out,’’ Katamatite Lions Club acting secretary Rob Peachey said.

‘‘A lot of people around are of the generation that knew of Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson and this show will be as close as you can ever get to being in the presence of these two great Australian story tellers.’’

It’s on at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort on October 30 from 7.30 pm.

Tickets cost $35. To book, phone Rob Peachey on 0413 186 027. Tickets can also be purchased from the Katamatite Post Office and the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort reception desk.

Telling a story or two: Henry Lawson (Max Cullen) and Banjo Paterson (Warren Fahey) will be performing in a fundraiser for the Katamatite Lions Club.
