Teen triumph

The Cobram Courier - - NEWS - By Kenji Sato

A Cobram teenager seized the limelight at the Miss Teen Continents beauty pageant, where she won the highest fundraiser award and a spot at the Australian International pageant.

It was the first pageant for Indyanna Ciccone, 13, who said she had been drawn to the spotlight since she was six years old.

‘‘I always liked to be in front of the camera,’’ Indyanna said.

‘‘Everywhere I went I would be strutting and posing.’’

Indyanna was the youngest contestant but still managed to impress the judges with her fashion wear, swimwear and evening wear modelling.

She placed seventh overall, qualifying as a finalist for the Australian International pageant in February.

In preparation for the Miss Teen Continents pageant, Indyanna made appearances at Eileen Taylor and Katamatite Preschool, Suncountry Dance School and the Cobram Show, where she presented the Miss Showgirl sashes.

She has also appeared at the Kids Fashion Meets Music runway modelling show and fashion advertisements for brands such as Rip Curl, Neon Dancewear and DJ Jazzy Clothing.

Indyanna said her success was largely due to her mother Kayla Morris, who is her number-one fan and make-up artist.

‘‘I can’t do make-up for the life of me. If I try to do my own make-up it looks like I’ve been punched in the face,’’ she said.

Indyanna also won the pageant charity award by raising money for Children’s Cancer Centre at Westmead Hospital and Teal Wings of Hope ovarian cancer charity.

Cancer is a deeply personal cause for Indyanna, who has had tumours in her appendix and an aunt who died from ovarian cancer.

For the Australian International pageant she will raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and Aussie Helpers to help dairy farmers like her uncle and grandpa.

She has plans to raise the money through trivia nights, an auction, an everyday hero online account and a family fun day.

Strutting her stuff: Indyanna Ciccone will head to the Australian International pageant.
