Moira Film Group screening
The next film to be shown by the Moira Film Group is the Rogers and Hammerstein musical Carousel, starring Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones. This film will be shown at 1.30 pm today, November 15, at the Yarroweyah Hall, following the Christmas lunch at 12.30 pm. Afternoon tea will be served after the film. Barooga Botanical Gardens volunteers will hold a plant sale on Saturday from 8 am to noon. Many hardy plants will be available and all proceeds help to maintain the gardens.
Orchid club meeting
The next meeting of the Murray Valley Orchid Club will be held on Sunday at the Senior Citizens’ hall in Hovel St, Yarrawonga. The hall will open at 12.30 pm for setting up plants and the meeting will start at 1.30 pm. There will be a talk about growing Dendrobiums as well as other types of orchids. If you have an orchid that needs repotting, bring it to the meeting to be fixed up, even if you are a non-member. Visitors most welcome, especially prospective new members. The Lalalty Hall Christmas party will be on November 25 at the Lalalty Hall starting at 7 pm. A selicious spit roast with vegies and desserts will be served. Santa will also make a visit. Christmas cardmaking workshops
There will be Christmas cardmaking workshops at Katamatite Hall on November 17 from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm and November 18 from 10 am to 4 pm. They will be part of the monthly scrapbooking and card-making workshops held every month by Beryl White. Strathmerton Lions Club country music
The next country music event will be held on November 18 at the Strathmerton Hall from 7 pm.

Safe plate day
Cobram Neighbourhood Watch in conjunction with Cobram police and the Cobram Kiwanis Club will be holding a safe plate day on Saturday, November 18, at the Woolworths car park on Punt Rd.
Bring your car and get oneway screws fitted. It only takes a few minutes and may prevent your plates being stolen and used to commit a crime.

Combined Anglican fete
This popular annual event organised by Cobram Anglican Grammar School and the Anglican Parish of Cobram will this year be held in the church grounds in High St on November 24 from 3.30 pm. The change of venue is due to major construction works at the school. The fete will feature a monster 17-metre inflatable crocodile as well as all the regular attractions. Group invites all district residents to the community Christmas party.
A barbecue tea and soft drinks will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own food if you wish.
There will be plenty of entertainment for the kids, including a visit from Santa and a raffle with a variety of prizes to be won.
All proceeds from the raffle go back into community projects.
The party is on Sunday, November 26, from 5 pm at the Koonoomoo Recreation Reserve.
Magical, Musical Christmas
The Cobram Senior Citizens choir presents Magical, Musical Christmas on Monday, November 27 and Thursday, November 30 at 1.30 pm in the Senior Citizens Club rooms on Hay Ave, Cobram. Entry is $2 for both days. Raffle tickets will be three for $2. A lucky door raffle and afternoon tea will be provided.
Christmas lunch to share
Doug’s Christmas lunch is for all singles and couples over 50 who would otherwise be on their own for lunch on Christmas Day. Bookings are essential. Rhyme and storytime
Rhyme and Storytime is on every Friday at 10.30 am at the Cobram Library. Sessions begin with rhymes and songs, followed by stories and then a simple craft. Babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers, with their carers, are all welcome to join in.
Women’s social tennis
Women’s social tennis will be played at the Barooga Sports Club tennis courts on Tuesdays from 10 am. No set teams, just a social hit of tennis for women. For information, phone June Whiteman on 5872 2656.

Want to meet new people while learning a new sport? Join Barooga Sports Bowls Club’s bowlers’ coffee club on Wednesdays at 9.45 am. No previous experience needed. Flat shoes are required. Want to be part of the Red Hat Society? The ‘Raving Reds’ group is looking for new members — women aged 50 and over who have a zest for life and wish to take part in a fun-loving friendly group that has no rules and no committees. The only exception is the dress code: a red hat (or something frivolous) worn with a purple outfit. The group meets regularly at various venues.
