Milestone celebrated

The Cobram Courier - - SPORT - By Kenji Sato

A Cobram woman celebrated a major milestone when she ran her 100th Parkrun event on Saturday, November 4.

Lyn Hewson completed the 100 runs despite being ‘‘not much of a runner’’ by her own admission.

‘‘It’s all about getting out and giving it a go no matter what your ability or age is,’’ she said.

Ms Hewson started her Parkrun streak in Shepparton and enjoyed it so much that she decided to bring it to Cobram.

When Ms Hewson founded Cobram Parkrun it was a small group of casual runners, but it now attracts more than 60 people every Saturday.

‘‘It’s good to use our local parks and tracks and connect with our really positive environment,’’ Ms Hewson said.

Cobram Parkrun is a free weekly 5 km timed event that starts from Thompsons Beach, goes around Quinn Island and finishes back at Thompsons Beach.

‘‘Many locals had never even been to Quinn Island, even though it’s such an amazing and beautiful place,’’ Ms Hewson said.

Runners register online and receive a barcode which is scanned at the end of every Parkrun.

Run times are available online to runners, who can keep track of their progress across any of the 240 Parkrun events across Australia.

‘‘We welcome everyone and you can run, jog walk — it’s up to you,’’ Ms Hewson said.
