This week of pen­nant saw a mixed bag of re­sults with Divi­sion 1 in Fri­day pen­nant hav­ing a win over Fin­ley how­ever the Divi­sion 2 side was no match for Co­bram’s num­ber two side and went down by 35 shots.

In Satur­day pen­nant we had a draw against Fin­ley RSC in Divi­sion 1 with two rinks up and two down. In Divi­sion 2 against Co­bram we could only man­age one rink win and one draw to go down by 20 shots. In Divi­sion 3 play­ing against Fin­ley’s num­ber one side we went down by 52 shots with all rinks los­ing. Divi­sion 4 played Ber­ri­gan and lost by 13 shots.

Trade day this past week was held at our own club where a full field saw the win­ners com­ing from the Fin­ley RSC team of Roy John­son, Ian Polk­inghorne and Tony Turner with the run­ners-up be­ing Ron Dougherty, Col Bow­den and Peter Buller.

Best first game win­ners were Steve Martin, Alan Clark and Noel New­man; best sec­ond game win­ners were Bruce Agnew, Butch Brown and Brian Gen­tle; best third game win­ners were Peter Wilson and team; and best last game win­ners were Ian Smethurst, Ke­rian Beare and Rod Brown.

The jack­pot, al­though close, did not go off and is now worth $445 at Fin­ley RSC this week.

Keith’s Fri­day win­ners this week were Ge­off Brent­nall and Al­lan Den­son with +19; Kevin Kennedy and Wal Lew­ing­ton were run­ners-up with +12.

Best first-game win­ners were John Can­ning and Colin Greel­ish with +10, with Gra­ham Bax­ter and Graeme Hickey win­ning best sec­ond game with +4.

Ba­rooga women

So­cial bowls was played on Mon­day, Novem­ber 6, and the win­ners were R. Koch and M. Hoog.

On Mon­day, Novem­ber 13, so­cial bowls was Scroungers and af­ter play­ing 12 ends we had four win­ners — one from each group — and a fi­nal was played be­tween D. Nye, C. Cox, H. Crossth­waite and K. Bruce. Af­ter three ends K. Bruce and H. Crossth­waite were even, so a play-off was played and K. Bruce came out as the vic­tor.

Mid­week Pen­nant had mixed re­sults, with Divi­sion 1 de­feat­ing Fin­ley. K. Ralph nar­rowly lost to H. Tabe 26-28, J. Toohey de­feated T. Miles 29-19, and C. Wigg went down to N. Smith by one shot, 21-22.

Ba­rooga 76 shots de­feated Fin­ley 69, with Ba­rooga gain­ing 12 points to 4.

Divi­sion 2 was de­feated by Co­bram at Co­bram, 55 shots to 90, with Co­bram gain­ing the max­i­mum 16 points.

P. Es­cott went down to C. Do­herty by two shots, 22-24. R. Koch lost to V. Quinane, 15-35. K. Bruce was de­feated by J. Warfe, 18-31.

A great day was had Mel­bourne Cup Day, with a chicken and cham­pagne lunch fol­lowed by sweets.

The best hat went to F. Neale; lady of the day was V. Toohey; man of the day was R. Wright; best cou­ple went to Mau­reen and Gra­ham; and the lucky door prize win­ner was W. Wright.


Fri­day Pen­nant re­sults were ex­cit­ing for the club with both sides record­ing vic­to­ries.

Divi­sion 1 de­feated Ber­ri­gan 91-54 with wins on all rinks. Ieva Saun­ders de­feated Faye Gibbs 25-23, Marj Mc­Don­ald de­feated Nan Dart 37-11 and Brenda Smethurst de­feated Val Chisholm 29-20. The win takes them to the top of the ladder.

Divi­sion 2 recorded its first win for the sea­son de­feat­ing Ba­rooga Sports 90-55 and also win­ning on all rinks.

Satur­day Pen­nant Divi­sion 1 suf­fered a de­feat go­ing down by nine shots to Katan­dra West, 79-87. Bob Grif­fiths def Kevin Minogue 20-17, Steve Tat­nall de­feated Rob­bie Glover 28-14, Ray Parks lost to Merv Han­naford and Marj Mc­Don­ald lost to Damian Wil­liams 11-31.

Divi­sion 2 de­feated Ba­rooga Sports 99-79, Divi­sion 3 de­feated Fin­ley RSC 83-65 and Divi­sion 4 lost to Strath­mer­ton by two shots, 35-37. There will be no play in Satur­day pen­nant next Satur­day ow­ing to the Bowls Vic­to­ria Open tour­na­ment be­ing played at var­i­ous venues within Shep­par­ton and sur­round­ing ar­eas.

Co­bram bowlers are com­pet­ing in sev­eral events and best wishes go to them for suc­cess­ful bowl­ing.
