This week of pennant saw a mixed bag of results with Division 1 in Friday pennant having a win over Finley however the Division 2 side was no match for Cobram’s number two side and went down by 35 shots.
In Saturday pennant we had a draw against Finley RSC in Division 1 with two rinks up and two down. In Division 2 against Cobram we could only manage one rink win and one draw to go down by 20 shots. In Division 3 playing against Finley’s number one side we went down by 52 shots with all rinks losing. Division 4 played Berrigan and lost by 13 shots.
Trade day this past week was held at our own club where a full field saw the winners coming from the Finley RSC team of Roy Johnson, Ian Polkinghorne and Tony Turner with the runners-up being Ron Dougherty, Col Bowden and Peter Buller.
Best first game winners were Steve Martin, Alan Clark and Noel Newman; best second game winners were Bruce Agnew, Butch Brown and Brian Gentle; best third game winners were Peter Wilson and team; and best last game winners were Ian Smethurst, Kerian Beare and Rod Brown.
The jackpot, although close, did not go off and is now worth $445 at Finley RSC this week.
Keith’s Friday winners this week were Geoff Brentnall and Allan Denson with +19; Kevin Kennedy and Wal Lewington were runners-up with +12.
Best first-game winners were John Canning and Colin Greelish with +10, with Graham Baxter and Graeme Hickey winning best second game with +4.
Social bowls was played on Monday, November 6, and the winners were R. Koch and M. Hoog.
On Monday, November 13, social bowls was Scroungers and after playing 12 ends we had four winners — one from each group — and a final was played between D. Nye, C. Cox, H. Crossthwaite and K. Bruce. After three ends K. Bruce and H. Crossthwaite were even, so a play-off was played and K. Bruce came out as the victor.
Midweek Pennant had mixed results, with Division 1 defeating Finley. K. Ralph narrowly lost to H. Tabe 26-28, J. Toohey defeated T. Miles 29-19, and C. Wigg went down to N. Smith by one shot, 21-22.
Barooga 76 shots defeated Finley 69, with Barooga gaining 12 points to 4.
Division 2 was defeated by Cobram at Cobram, 55 shots to 90, with Cobram gaining the maximum 16 points.
P. Escott went down to C. Doherty by two shots, 22-24. R. Koch lost to V. Quinane, 15-35. K. Bruce was defeated by J. Warfe, 18-31.

A great day was had Melbourne Cup Day, with a chicken and champagne lunch followed by sweets.
The best hat went to F. Neale; lady of the day was V. Toohey; man of the day was R. Wright; best couple went to Maureen and Graham; and the lucky door prize winner was W. Wright.
Friday Pennant results were exciting for the club with both sides recording victories.
Division 1 defeated Berrigan 91-54 with wins on all rinks. Ieva Saunders defeated Faye Gibbs 25-23, Marj McDonald defeated Nan Dart 37-11 and Brenda Smethurst defeated Val Chisholm 29-20. The win takes them to the top of the ladder.
Division 2 recorded its first win for the season defeating Barooga Sports 90-55 and also winning on all rinks.
Saturday Pennant Division 1 suffered a defeat going down by nine shots to Katandra West, 79-87. Bob Griffiths def Kevin Minogue 20-17, Steve Tatnall defeated Robbie Glover 28-14, Ray Parks lost to Merv Hannaford and Marj McDonald lost to Damian Williams 11-31.
Division 2 defeated Barooga Sports 99-79, Division 3 defeated Finley RSC 83-65 and Division 4 lost to Strathmerton by two shots, 35-37. There will be no play in Saturday pennant next Saturday owing to the Bowls Victoria Open tournament being played at various venues within Shepparton and surrounding areas.
