Back in Tigers’ lair
Tigers welcome new recruit, returning son
Once a tiger, always a tiger.
Cobram’s Cadeyn Williams is on his way home to Cobram Football Club.
The 23-year-old will return to his boyhood club after two years playing for Richmond in the AFL and a stint with the Box Hill Hawks in the VFL.
Williams plans to bring his experience from the elite level back to Cobram, where he played all his junior football.
‘‘I can offer a wealth of knowledge and leadership,’’ he said.
‘‘I think it’ll be good to help nurture the talent of some of the younger guys coming through the under17s and under-14s.
‘‘They’ve got some exciting young kids coming through and it would be a great chance for my personal development and leadership.’’
Moving back home was a personal decision for Williams, who had not seen many of his friends and family in years.
‘‘Living in Melbourne, I haven’t had the opportunity to see Mum and Dad as much as I would like,’’ he said.
‘‘That’s the main reason for the move back home — that and getting to play with friends I haven’t played with in a long time.’’
Another star to sign with the Tigers is Jack Wilson, who played the majority of his football at Redan Football Club in the Ballarat Football League.
The midfielder, 24, will travel from his home in Geelong to play for Cobram each week.
‘‘There is plenty of talent at Cobram and I want to have a serious crack,’’ he said.
‘‘I hope I can contribute each week. I want to give back to the club and reward them for giving me this opportunity.’’
Wilson has friends at the club and decided he wanted to join them and take footy more seriously.
‘‘It’s tough coming to a new club, especially after so long at Redan,’’ he said.
‘‘But having friends at Cobram will help. I think I will make a solid transition into the club.’’
Wilson said he was looking forward to starting a new pre-season with a new club.
‘‘I’ve had a quick chat with the club’s senior coach Josh Noonan and it all sounded very positive,’’ he said.
‘‘I’ve heard great things about him and the club from people I know there and the pre-season plan is looking strong.’’
