Grassfire burns trees

The Cobram Courier - - NEWS -

Hundreds of trees were burnt to the ground last Wednesday after a fire broke out near Mathers Rd in Yalca, about 20 km from Cobram.

The wind blew the fire in a southerly direction towards Morris and Dansons roads, but 18 fire trucks arrived on the scene and were able to control the blaze before it reached the road.

Thick smoke filled the air, leading the CFA to issue an air quality warning for people in the Yalca area.

The CFA said the fire was made worse by dead material in the grassland, which was unusually dry for this time of year.

Burn: Dry grassland was partly responsible for the fire.

Under control: Firefighters managed to control the grassfire.
