Run for vi­o­lence against women aware­ness

The com­mu­nity will run in the park on Satur­day to raise money and aware­ness for vi­o­lence against women.

Lo­cal po­lice, Co­bram Ba­rooga Sorop­tomist In­ter­na­tional and Co­bram Ro­tary will run the 5 km parkrun on Novem­ber 25, the In­ter­na­tional Day for the Elim­i­na­tion of Vi­o­lence Against Women. Co­bram Ro­tary will cook a $5 break­fast with all pro­ceeds to go to the White Rib­bon Foun­da­tion.

Par­tic­i­pants can also make a cash do­na­tion on the day.

Event di­rec­tor Lyn Hew­son said do­mes­tic vi­o­lence was an im­por­tant, on­go­ing is­sue in Co­bram.

‘‘I want peo­ple in the com­mu­nity to be aware of the is­sue of fam­ily vi­o­lence,’’ she said.

Walk­ers and prams are wel­come, but there is a ban on bikes or scoot­ers for safety rea­sons.

Dogs on short leads are wel­come, but lim­ited to one per par­tic­i­pant.

The event will kick off at 7.45 am at the ca­noe shed on Thomp­sons Beach in Co­bram.
