Run for violence against women awareness
The community will run in the park on Saturday to raise money and awareness for violence against women.
Local police, Cobram Barooga Soroptomist International and Cobram Rotary will run the 5 km parkrun on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Cobram Rotary will cook a $5 breakfast with all proceeds to go to the White Ribbon Foundation.
Participants can also make a cash donation on the day.
Event director Lyn Hewson said domestic violence was an important, ongoing issue in Cobram.
‘‘I want people in the community to be aware of the issue of family violence,’’ she said.
Walkers and prams are welcome, but there is a ban on bikes or scooters for safety reasons.
Dogs on short leads are welcome, but limited to one per participant.
The event will kick off at 7.45 am at the canoe shed on Thompsons Beach in Cobram.
